So, what is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a type of marketing where you get a commission on sales of a certain product by way of an “affiliate link” or code.

If you’ve read my recent posts, you’ll see that I’ve been linking products through the post. Alternately, you may see a lot of “Like to Know It” posts on Instagram or “Swipe Up to Shop” on stories. These are all methods of affiliate marketing.

By doing this, the company essentially partners with you to gain sales. In exchange for your traffic, you receive a commission on whatever is sold through your link or code.

The commission varies by brand / item and many different companies offer this. I’ve found success using certain websites such as RewardStyle (this is relatively exclusive and may take time to be accepted – ShopStyle Collective is a great alternative), but companies will also reach out and offer a unique code for your followers to use.

Sometimes you may receive product in exchange for posts where you offer your discount code. What many people don’t see is the time, effort and creativity that goes into content creation. Oftentimes, it takes many tries to achieve something that is non-pushy and aesthetically pleasing. If there’s one thing people don’t respond well to, it’s pushy marketing! As a content creator and affiliate marketer, that’s a big factor to take into consideration while working with companies.
